Arkansas, with a September jobless rate of 4%, ranks 15th among the 50 states and the District of Columbia in terms of bouncing back from the high unemployment levels wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to WalletHub, a consumer finance information company.

To determine the rankings, WalletHub used five metrics that compare unemployment rate statistics from the latest month for which data is available (September 2021) to key dates in 2019 and 2020.

The five states recovering the most were Nebraska at No. 1, followed by Utah, Alabama, Idaho and New Hampshire at No. 5.

Nationwide, the unemployment rate was 4.8% in September, “which is still higher than it was before the pandemic but is much lower than the nearly historic high of 14.8% in April 2020,” WalletHub said. “This overall drop can be attributed largely to a combination of vaccinations and states loosening restrictions.”
